FDOT models the fiber optic cable system based on actual conditions, so the ITSFM can perform fiber path traces and outage locations. Accurate as-built data is essential for this tool to output accurate information. FDOT has developed several data collection forms that provide a uniform platform to document fiber optic cable attributes including:
- Cable manufacturer, type, strand count and other attributes
- Cable sequential sheath readings at each access point entrance or exit
- Each side of a splice case
- Each patch panel cable entrance
- Optical fiber terminations and splices
- Fiber path names
The fiber optic data collection forms are used to summarize mapping data for fiber conduits, cable lengths, slack loop locations and lengths, jumper terminations and fiber splicing to allow the cable network to be properly modeled. These forms include:
