The ITSFM is a Geographical Information System (GIS) based Web application. It is designed to manage Outside Plant (OSP) transportation management equipment based on their Latitude / Longitude values using the WGS 84 coordinate system. All GPS mapping shall achieve sub-meter or better positional accuracy.
FDOT developed custom GPS mapping tools within the Trimble TerraSync and Pathfinder Office software platform. This includes the ITSFM configuration, data dictionary and export routines designed to synchronize the hand-held data collector units with the features and attributes supported in the ITSFM database.
This mapping tool allows GPS technicians to seamlessly map field equipment that is easily exported. This information can then be imported into MicroStation to create accurate as-built plans and then imported into the ITSFM database. The following features types are supported:
- Conduit Access Points and Duct Banks
- Equipment Locations
- ITS & Signals
- Toll Sites
- Wireless Shelters & Cabinets
- Support Structures (Pole, Overhead, Cantilever & Gantry)
The configuration allows conduit duct banks (linear features) to be created in the as-single feature, connecting conduit access points (pullboxes). The GPS technician will create the conduit by capturing the start point at the origin pullbox, capture numerous location points along the conduit running line, then capture the end point at the destination pullbox.
The Trimble GPS configuration, data dictionary and export routines are available to contractors and consultants to assist in preparing as-built deliverables. Contractors and consultants may use other GPS manufacturer’s equipment and software capable of providing the as-built data that meets the functional requirements, delivered in the proper electronic format, and be ready for import into the ITS Facility Management (ITSFM) system without the need for post processing.
