In June of 2002, in a statewide meeting, the District Traffic Operations Engineers (DTOE) and the State Traffic Operations Engineer committed their offices to providing statewide uniformity for all signs installed on our State Highway System.
The purpose of this website, Florida's Highway Sign Library, is to share standardized and approved sign designs for use on the State Highway System. The Traffic Engineering and Operations Office will update the Sign Library with new sign designs as they are approved for use.
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device’s (MUTCD) Standard Highway Signs Publication provides design standards for all federally regulated signs. The Florida Sign Library provides Florida Traffic Plan (FTP) signs and modified versions of the MUTCD signs for Florida-specific applications. E.g., In-Street Pedestrian Crossing Sign (R1-6a) and (FTP-86-21). The FTP-86-21 is a smaller size of the R1-6a to accommodate for limited cross-sections.
The Sign Library provides four different file type formats for the available sign design details (.sgn, .dxf, .bmp, and .dgn) Some file types require specific software to open and view. For example, to open and view the .sgn format, you must have a registered copy of SignCad® Software installed on your computer. To properly view the .dxf file in a graphics format (drawing exchange format) you must have a graphics program configured to open .dxf files, such as MicroStation CAD.
