As part of the Sarasota Manatee MPO’s priorities, FDOT is designing a project to continue the improvement of advanced signal system infrastructure in Sarasota County.  Two projects are in design:

• 453537-1 – US 41 Tamiami Tr from Siesta Dr to US 301 – 6 intersections adding CV RSUs, ATSPM-capable detection, and cabinet and controller upgrades
• 453539-1 – SR 780 Fruitville Rd from US 301 to Honore Ave – 10 intersections adding CV RSUs, ATSPM-capable detection, and cabinet and controller upgrades

  Both projects have similar scope, to provide design plans to upgrade the hardware, software and infrastructure of the existing signalized intersections to be ATSPM and CV capable. The design elements include:

• Design for the construction and integration of an ATSPM system including any needed signal and ATSPM hardware, software, firmware, and any modifications to the existing infrastructure, including vehicle detection, cabling, and mounting hardware.
• Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and any other infrastructure necessary to support the ATSPM system.
• Connected Vehicle (CV) Roadside Units (RSUs) at each signalized intersection.
• Communications infrastructure and hardware required to provide monitoring and control capabilities of the ATSPM from the County / City and FDOT facilities. This includes a new fiber optic cable as needed to tie the proposed ATSPM system and signal controller cabinets to the existing ATMS network.

The design commences Fall 2024, expected completion Spring 20226.  The projects are not yet funded for construction
