IFTA-IRP Grace Extension 2024
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) will be granting a grace extension on IFTA licenses needing additional or replacement decals from May 30th, 2024, until August 30th, 2024, and IRP registrations that expired on or after May 31st, 2024 until August 30th, 2024
Temporary Fuel Use Permits
Carriers from out of state who are operating an IFTA qualified vehicle in Florida without an IFTA license must purchase a Florida fuel use permit to operate in Florida. The out of state carrier must obtain the Florida fuel use permit prior to entering the state of Florida and it must remain with the vehicle while in the state. The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has released an official notification concerning the International Federal Tax Agreement (IFTA) and the International Registration Plan (IRP) and a new software being released.
Over $180 Million in INFRA Grants for Florida Truck Parking
In January 2024, it was announced that Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) was awarded over $180 million in Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant funds by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Mainline Weigh-in-Motion (WIM)
Mainline Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) systems are commonly used to screen commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) on interstate highways at highway speeds. These systems check CMVs to ensure compliance with size, weight, and reviews other vehicle information as they approach a weigh station. The WIM system provides the collected data to the scale system to determine if the vehicle needs further review.

Truck parking shortages have been identified as a safety concern both locally and nationally. Several studies have identified that there is an inadequate supply of truck parking spaces which adversely impacts the supply chain and communities.
