About the Study
The existing South Jenkins Road extends for approximately 3.94 miles from Altman Road to Orange Avenue, Walmart Distribution Center to Glades Cut-Off Road, and Midway Road to Post Office Road. There are approximately 1.16 miles of South Jenkins Road that do not currently exist: from Post Office Road to Glades Cut-Off Road and Walmart Distribution Center to Altman Road. South Jenkins Road provides access to I-95 through Orange Avenue, Okeechobee Road, and Midway Road. to Post Office Road. There is approximately 1.16 miles of South Jenkins Road that does not currently exist: from Post Office Road to Glades Cut-Off Road and Walmart Distribution Center to Altman Road. South Jenkins Road provides access to I-95 through Orange Avenue, Okeechobee Road, and Midway Road.
The businesses and residential communities along Jenkins Road traveling between Midway Road to SR 70 and SR 68 is accomplished along parallel facilities like I-95. This project will improve connectivity with a new four-lane roadway to connect between the existing Jenkins Road from Post Office Road to Glades Cut-Off Road and Walmart Distribution Center to Altman Road. Within most of the project limits, South Jenkins Road was recorded as operating at an overall Level of Service (LOS) of a C in 2022, based on the Traffic Counts and Level of Service Report by the St. Lucie TPO. Therefore, South Jenkins Road is currently operating well, however, congestion is expected to increase in this area.
Western Ft. Pierce and unincorporated St. Lucie County will likely continue to grow and will add pressure to the existing roadway network. South Jenkins Road accommodates a sidewalk in a few locations. Designated bicycle lanes are provided along South Jenkins Road from Okeechobee Road to Tedder Road. There are no contiguous sidewalks, bike lanes, or multiuse paths within the project study area. St. Lucie County is committed to enhancing its St. Lucie Walk-Bike Network by continuing the planning and coordination of bicycle, pedestrian, and greenway facilities.
