Aviation: Seaplane bases and Heliports​


With FDOT Airport Planning Manager Nick Harwell

FDOT's Aviation Office partners with more than 686 airports throughout Florida which includes unique aircraft facilities such as heliports and seaplane bases. This office plays a vital role in not only the establishment of new heliports within the state but also the approval, inspection and licensing for all public-use seaplane bases to ensure safety.

Office of Environmental Management​

Established more than 40 years ago, FDOT’s Office of Environmental Management establishes procedures and guidelines used consistently by projects throughout the state to ensure environmental considerations are balanced with transportation needs. Construction Office​

Traffic Engineering and Operations Office​

The Traffic Engineering and Operations Office works hard each day to help FDOT continue to provide a safe, well-planned transportation network with the mission of being congestion and fatality-free. This office assists residents and visitors during day-to-day travel, keeps them in the know during evacuations, deploys Road Ranger Service Patrols to help motorists in need, and is preparing Florida for the future by being involved in the implementation of connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) deployments.

Seaport Office​

Florida is home to 15 publicly owned deepwater seaports, which provide essential cargo handling services to support the operations of businesses and subtropical lifestyles of residents and visitors. The Florida Department of Transportation’s Seaport team works with Florida's deepwater seaports to collaborate on planning and funding strategic seaport projects. FDOT’s Seaport team works hard behind the scenes so that the department can make crucial investments in seaport infrastructure and keep Florida moving.

Emergency Management Office​


With Irene Cabral, FDOT Emergency Coordination Officer

The Emergency Management Office's purpose is to help the department prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate against natural disasters and other emergencies affecting the agency and Florida's intermodal transportation systems. During emergency events, FDOT’s Emergency Management Office is on call 24/7 to receive and relay critical information from the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and partners with agencies in regard to incidents impacting the state’s transportation system. The Central Office team works closely with District resources and responses to recover from all impacts.

Public Transit Office​


Public Transit Office Spotlight

The dedicated men and women in the FDOT Public Transit Office work each day to provide reliable, safe, and cost-effective access to those who live in and visit Florida. From commuter rail systems such as SunRail to the new autonomous shuttles in Lake Nona to buses throughout the state, transit plays an essential role in Florida’s transportation system and here at the department.

The State Materials Office has been a nationally and internationally recognized leader in materials testing and research for the Florida Department of Transportation for over 70 years.  The department relies on our experts in the State Materials Office to provide their technical expertise statewide to the Design, Construction and Maintenance divisions of FDOT. This office is responsible for creating the specifications, policies and procedures that regulate the approval and acceptance of all materials used in FDOT road and bridge construction.
