Florida Department of Transportation Hosts First Transportation Industry Hiring Event and Makes First-Ever On-Site Hire

FDOT and 50 Industry Partners Join Together to Recruit Workforce

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Yesterday, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and 50 industry partners hosted the state’s first transportation industry hiring event in Jacksonville. The event, named Road to Your Future, is the first of a series of events strategically designed to strengthen the state’s transportation workforce to ensure the continuous delivery of a safe and efficient transportation system. More than 400 area residents pre-registered to attend the Road to Your Future event, demonstrating a significant interest in the types of jobs available in transportation.

During the event, FDOT made its first-ever on-site hire, reflecting the immediate impact and effectiveness of this new initiative. Additionally, numerous industry partners had the opportunity to recruit talent for a wide range of positions ranging from surveyors and communications professionals to mechanics and drivers.

“With the strong support from Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature to invest in Florida's transportation infrastructure, FDOT is working diligently to build and maintain a robust workforce. Transportation jobs are not just about moving people and goods – they are about driving progress and economic development in the communities we serve,” said Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. “From engineers who design safe roads to maintenance technicians that ensure smooth travel to payroll specialists who provide the support needed to keep everyone moving, the transportation industry offers countless opportunities for a brighter future. I’m proud of this event and the ability of our team to streamline the hiring process and remove barriers for those individuals who were hired today.”

“The Road to Your Future hiring event in Jacksonville was instrumental in shaping the future of transportation in Northeast Florida,” said FDOT District Two Secretary Greg Evans. “By working together with our industry partners, we created a way to connect hundreds of eager job seekers quickly and easily with rewarding career opportunities. I am confident the success of this event will have ripple effects throughout our region, benefiting both our workforce and the communities we serve.”

The Statewide Workforce Development Program, instituted and operated by FDOT since late 2019, is the culmination of key initiatives that provide a pathway to opportunities for experienced and entry-level workers alike in any field, allowing them to build successful careers in Florida’s transportation industry regardless of skill sets or level of experience. Transportation jobs offer competitive pay and comprehensive benefits packages, ensuring the well-being and financial security of the workforce. In Florida, the transportation sector is at the forefront of technological advancement and innovation, presenting employees with opportunities to engage in initiatives that impact the future of infrastructure.

FDOT’s next Road to Your Future event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20 at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds in Dover. Check the link below for advanced notice of potential positions available at the event.
