Let's Go Walking! to School Day

TIME: 7:00 a.m.–8:15 a.m.

This year the BMPO and Broward County Public Schools partnered to host the Let’s Go Walking to School event, and invited the City of Miramar to highlight the big accomplishment of the Safe Route to School program award, together with Annabel C Perry School. The event is part of the Complete Streets Initiative in the Broward region that encourages active transportation, reinforces healthy habits like walking and exercising and increases awareness of the need for safe infrastructure and safe behavior.

Park Lakes Elementary Transportation Day

TIME: 8:15 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

FDOT’s District 4 and the South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS) program are hosting a Transportation Day at Park Lakes Elementary for the students (grades K – 5). During the event, students will learn the benefits and safety aspects of using other modes of travel (i.e. walking/biking, carpool/school-pool, and bus) through demonstrations and interactive activities. These elementary kids are obviously not a direct effect on congestion in our area; however, we believe if we teach and acquaint them with their transit options now, they will be less likely to contribute to traffic in later years.
