Central Broward Transit Study

Welcome to the Central Broward Transit Study

The Florida Department of Transportation District Four, in coordination with Broward County, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), identified a Locally Preferred Alternative, or LPA, for the Central Broward East-West Transit (CBT) Study in Broward County, Florida. The LPA adopted by the Broward MPO in October 2012 provides premium transit service from the Sawgrass Mills Mall/Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise to Downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport using a variety of roadways.

The LPA was divided into phases for implementation. Phase 1 is a connection from the Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International Airport to the Broward Convention Center and Port Everglades. A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared and submitted to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for review in 2016. Phase 1 was placed on hold due to a lack of available funding for operations and maintenance.

With the adoption of a one percent sales tax for transportation by Broward County voters in 2018, the Department will be advancing implementation of the 2012 LPA in collaboration with Broward County. A related project, the Broward Boulevard Premium Transit Study, is underway and more information is available here.
