SASHTO Requirements
All applicants must meet the eligibility requirements and submit the following by the deadline: a completed online application, a transcript or copy of acceptance letter, supporting documentation, and a five-minute video essay. Eligibility Requirements
You must be 25 years of age or under on the last day of the application period.
You must be the dependent* of a current FDOT employee as determined by one of the following criteria:
- FDOT employee's own child, legally adopted child, child placed in employee home for adoption in accordance with Chapter 63, F.S.
- FDOT employee's step-child who can be claimed as an exemption on employee's Federal Income Tax (IRS) return.
- Foster child of FDOT employee.
- Children for whom employee has established legal guardianship pursuant to Chapter 744, F.S., or court ordered custody.
*FDOT employees in an OPS position or those who are participating in the FDOT Internship Program may apply and are not required to be the dependent of an FDOT employee. Full-time FDOT employees are not eligible to apply.
You must be a graduating high school senior who has been accepted for enrollment or a post-secondary student with proof of current enrollment status. This includes enrollment in:
- Any undergraduate degree at a four-year accredited college or university
- Any associate degree at a two-year accredited college
- Any certification at a career, vocational, technical or training institution
You must have a minimum cumulative (un-weighted) GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale equivalent, as shown by transcripts provided by the current learning institution.
Application Requirements
1. Completed Online Application
You must complete the online application (which includes the submission of all other requirements) prior to submission deadline. The application link, as well as important dates regarding the application process, are found here.
2. Transcripts/Letter of Acceptance
If you are currently enrolled in a learning institution, you must submit transcripts. You may submit unofficial transcripts; however, any transcripts you submit must show your current enrollment and status.
If you are a graduating high school senior, you must provide a copy of your letter of acceptance indicating enrollment in any of the following:
- An undergraduate degree at a four-year accredited college or university
- An associate degree at a two-year accredited college
- Certification at a career, vocational, technical or training institution
3. Supporting Documentation
You must submit supporting document such as proof of awards, distinctions, leadership activities, community involvement, volunteering and/or work experience. Supporting documentation is required for any of these items you include in your application.
Supporting documentation may also include correspondence from an administrator or leader of a program, as well as certification from an employer.
4. Five Minute Video Essay
All video essays must include or answer each of the following in the order presented below:
- Introduce yourself (including your name, age, and hometown). You may also include the last school attended, your hobbies, interests, participation in sports or other extracurricular activities.
- What is something unique to you?
- What outstanding achievements or awards have you received?
- What are your educational aspirations?
- What are your career goals? Include your short-term and long-term goals.
- What volunteering have you done?
- What is an issue you are passionate about?
- In what areas are you strongest?
- In what areas are you working on self-improvement?
- Conclude the video essay with statement explaining why you deserve this scholarship.
Your video essay must not exceed five (5) minutes, or it will not be accepted. The video cannot exceed 15 MB or it will not upload. Please compress your video to meet this requirement.
Tips for Video Essays
- Do not exceed five minutes.
- Write down or outline your answers before recording.
- If you use a smartphone, turn it horizontally for best results.
- Speak clearly and avoid any background noise or music.
- Include all the required information.
